Canadian Immigration Law FAQ
Which is better, an immigration consultant or a Canadian immigration lawyer?
An experienced Canadian immigration lawyer is the best choice for you for the following reasons:
1. Broader scope of practice
A licensed consultant is not allowed to deal with appeals or judicial reviews at the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) or the federal court.

However, an experienced immigration lawyer like me can provide one-stop service from the strategic planning to the approval.
If anything happens to your application, such as an IRCC delay or refusal, or requirement to submit additional documents, I take care of the negotiation, re-application, appeal, and/or judicial review with the authorities such as IRB, Department of Justice, and the federal court.
2. Reasonable fees
Many people assume an immigration lawyer’s fee is higher than a consultant - however, that is not always true.
For example, one of my clients was charged $7,000 plus HST for the family sponsorship application – and at that time, I only charged $5,000 plus HST.
And remember that I have 7+ years of experience dealing with family sponsorship files and have never been refused by the IRCC.
3. Higher level of protection to clients
Lawyers and consultants are regulated by different regulators.
Consultants are regulated by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants.
For lawyers like me, our professional conduct is supervised by the Law Society of each province or region. We are covered by multi-million dollars’ liability insurance required by the governing law society.
Trust an immigration lawyer like me to save you time, money, and stress.
